Downtown Racine is turning Monument Square into a makeshift ballpark this week, with the City of Racine and Downtown Racine Corporation hosting watch parties for the Milwaukee Brewers' World Series matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays. The drive through Monument Square will be closed to traffic for the gatherings, which kick off Friday at 7 p.m. as the Brewers make their first World Series appearance since 1982.
The City of Racine announced that organizers will host a watch party on Monument Square for the Milwaukee Brewers World Series games. According to ikenosha.com, the city secured express written consent from Major League Baseball to host watch parties for each game in the series.
Two 20-foot projection screens and audio equipment will broadcast the games live, and food and beverage vendors will be on site to keep the crowd fed throughout. Some seating will be provided, but the public is encouraged to bring their own chairs and dress appropriately for the weather, according to the same report.
When the Games Are Set to Tip Off
The reported schedule lists 7 p.m. Central start times for games on October 23, 24, 26, 27, 28, 30 and 31, per the report. The Wednesday, October 28, and Friday, October 30, games are also scheduled for 7 p.m. CT, matching the reported schedule.
A transcript tied to the city's announcement lists specific dates for Monument Square screenings: Friday, October 23, Saturday, October 24, Monday, October 26 and Tuesday, October 27, all at 7 p.m. Whether the Racine watch parties will extend to the later dates in the series, including October 28, 30 and 31, has not been independently confirmed beyond the broader report that all series games were scheduled for those dates.
A Callback to Racine's Bucks Celebration
This isn't the first time Racine has turned a public square into a communal sports bar. The city hosted similar watch parties for the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021, per ikenosha.com's report. Organizers are clearly hoping for a similar burst of civic energy as the Brewers make their first World Series appearance in over four decades.
More Watch Party Options Around the Region
Racine isn't the only place lighting up screens for the series. As reported by FOX6 Milwaukee, locations throughout the Milwaukee area are hosting special viewing parties for the games, including a parking-lot party at Buckets Pub 2nd Round in Racine for Games 1 and 2, featuring a heated party tent and a 12.5-foot screen.
Milwaukee Record reports that the Brewers themselves are hosting official watch parties for Game 3 and Game 4 at American Family Field on Monday, October 26, and Tuesday, October 27, at 7 p.m., with tickets priced at $15 and a limit of six tickets per person. The outlet also notes that Glendale's Bavarian Bierhaus will host watch parties beginning with Game 1 on Friday at 7 p.m., offering free beer during every game, while Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward will transform into an outdoor fan zone on Friday and Saturday with giant video screens, food, drinks and baseball nostalgia.
Monument Square is the planned venue for the Racine watch parties. With a closed street, big screens and vendors on standby, the city appears ready to turn the Brewers' long-awaited title run into a genuine block party.
