A 52-year-old Ramona man died Saturday night after his motorcycle struck a mailbox along Olive Street, continued along the dirt shoulder and collided with a signpost and metal fence, ejecting him, according to the California Highway Patrol. Paramedics responded, but he died before he could be taken to a hospital.

The crash happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. Saturday, per a CHP spokesperson, as reported by the San Diego Union-Tribune. The man was riding a 2022 Harley-Davidson west on Olive Street, east of Brazos Street, when he veered off the roadway and crashed into a metal mailbox. He then continued west along the dirt shoulder before colliding with a signpost and a metal fence, ejecting him from the bike.

CHP said the man was a Ramona resident, but his name has not been released. Investigators have not said whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, and the incident remains under investigation, the report notes.

A Pattern of Deadly Crashes on Ramona's Roads

This is not the first fatal motorcycle crash to hit the small backcountry community. In a separate incident, a 25-year-old Pala man died after his motorcycle collided with a truck late on a Friday night, according to FOX 5 San Diego. That crash also involved a 2022 Harley-Davidson, which the rider was steering westbound on 10th Street, east of Main Street, shortly before 11:30 p.m.

Another Ramona-area wreck left two people with major injuries when a motorcycle and a Honda Pilot collided near Rockhouse Road and Highway 67, the station's report states. And in a case detailed by Patch, a 24-year-old Ramona man died after being taken to a hospital following a crash on 3rd Street north of G Street — one in which investigators determined that unsafe speed caused the rider to lose control, overturn and be ejected, per Patch.

As in Saturday's crash, that earlier case also remained open while investigators tried to determine whether alcohol or drugs were factors, the outlet reported. For now, CHP has not released further details on what led the 52-year-old off the roadway on Olive Street, leaving the full circumstances of his death unresolved.
