A retired Palm Beach County attorney who once co-founded a well-known Boca Raton personal injury firm is facing a federal charge alleging he attempted to receive visual depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Darryl Kogan appeared in federal court after prosecutors filed a one-count information accusing him of the crime, with a judge setting his bond at $250,000.
According to cw34.com, federal prosecutors filed the one-count information charging Kogan with attempted receipt of visual depictions involving the sexual exploitation of a minor. The charging document alleges that Kogan knowingly attempted to receive the material on or about February 18, 2026, in Broward County.
Kogan made his initial appearance and was arraigned before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jared M. Strauss, the outlet's report states, and the court set his bond at $250,000. The personal surety bond was co-signed by his niece, Samantha Kogan, per the same account.
Bond Terms Keep Kogan Confined to South Florida
As a condition of his release, Kogan must remain within the Southern District of Florida unless travel is approved in advance, and he was required to surrender his passport and other travel documents, the report notes. If convicted, the charge carries a potential maximum prison sentence of 20 years, a mandatory minimum of five years, and a maximum fine of $250,000.
The report is careful to note that an information is a formal criminal charge, not a conviction, and that Kogan is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
A Career Built, Then a Firm's Name Changed
Kogan was a founding partner of the personal injury firm formerly known as Kogan & DiSalvo, the same report states, and the Florida Bar now lists him as permanently retired and not eligible to practice law in the state.
Separately, BocaNewsNow.com reports that Kogan was the subject of an FBI raid at his Boca Raton home earlier this year, and that his law firm changed its name from Kogan and DiSalvo to Baker and DiSalvo within weeks of that raid. The outlet also reports that the felony information document against Kogan was filed on October 1, 2026.
No response from Kogan or a defense attorney has been made public, and the record does not indicate how the case has proceeded since his initial court appearance.
