A Rockford man is facing attempted murder and four other charges after a 20-year-old woman turned up at a local hospital with head cuts, a broken nose, facial bruising and neck markings that investigators say are consistent with strangulation. Montell “Duke” Montgomery, 40, was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Winnebago County Jail, where he was being held pending a detention hearing.
Hospital Visit Triggered the Investigation
According to rockfordnewsfirst.com, investigators say officers were called to a local hospital on the morning of Sunday, Sept. 27, after a 20-year-old woman arrived with multiple severe injuries. That account describes cuts to her head, a broken nose, bruises on her face and neck markings indicative of strangulation.
As first reported by MyStateline, the Rockford Police Department said officers responded to the hospital report of a battery victim at 7:09 a.m. that Sunday. Investigators went on to identify Montgomery as the suspect in the case.
Arrest Comes Nearly Two Weeks Later
Montgomery was located and arrested by Rockford police Wednesday, more than a week after the woman was hospitalized. He now faces attempted murder, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, aggravated battery in a public place, robbery and unlawful restraint, per the same rockfordnewsfirst.com account.
He was taken to the Winnebago County Jail pending a detention hearing, and he was expected to make his first court appearance Friday. No further details on the circumstances of the alleged assault, the relationship between Montgomery and the woman, or the outcome of that court appearance have been made available.
