A 46-year-old man died after being shot multiple times late Saturday night in Roseland on Chicago's Far South Side. Police found him in the 10900 block of South Wabash Avenue with three gunshot wounds to his left thigh, and he was rushed to a hospital in serious condition before he was pronounced dead.
According to WGN-TV, officers responded to a call reporting a person shot around 10:45 p.m. and found the man lying on the ground. He was unable to provide any further details about the shooting before he was taken away for treatment. As of the station's report, nobody was in custody, and area detectives were continuing to investigate.
No Suspect Identified as Investigation Continues
The shooting remained under investigation, and the man's identity had not been made public.
The shooting adds to a string of violent incidents that have struck Roseland this year. In one case, a 36-year-old man was shot and killed in the neighborhood after police said a quarrel near Abbott Park at 95th and State streets turned physical, with a second man pulling out a gun and firing multiple times before running away, according to CBS News Chicago. That victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died.
Roseland Has Seen Repeated Violence in 2026
Roseland was also the site of a mass shooting in June, when at least 14 people were injured after two people opened fire on a large crowd gathered in the Princeton Park section of the neighborhood, Block Club Chicago reported. Police said that shooting happened around 11:08 p.m. in the 200 block of West 95th Street, when a red SUV pulled up on the crowd before the occupants fled. Victims in that shooting ranged in age from 17 to 47.
The violence comes amid a broader shift in Chicago's crime trends this year. The Chicago Police Department's Area 1 recorded 114 shootings and 32 homicides through early April, increases of 25% and 52% compared with the same period a year earlier, according to the Chicago Tribune. The city's four other patrol areas, by contrast, saw a combined 10% drop in killings over the same stretch.
Citywide, Chicago recorded 105 homicides through the first week of April, up slightly from 98 during the same period in 2025, per the same Tribune report. Reports of robberies and burglaries each fell by more than 20% this year.
