Salt Lake City gets one more warm, mostly sunny day Friday before a sharp turn toward wind, thunderstorms and potentially heavy rain. Temperatures are expected to reach about 84 degrees, while Saturday brings cooler conditions, gusty winds and a much better chance of getting caught without an umbrella.
Friday Looks Like The Last Easy Outdoor Day
Friday will be sunny and unusually warm for October, with southerly winds and a high near 84. After 3 p.m., showers may develop near the Salt Lake City terminal, with skies turning mostly cloudy and temperatures staying mild overnight near 63. The National Weather Service says isolated showers or thunderstorms could develop, but widespread wetting rain is unlikely Friday.
Saturday Brings Stronger Winds And Storms
Saturday starts with a slight chance of morning showers before showers and thunderstorms become likely, especially later in the day. The high should reach about 77, but southwesterly flow and widespread gusts around 30 to 45 mph Saturday afternoon could make outdoor plans feel considerably less relaxed than Friday's forecast suggests.
Storm chances increase again Saturday night, with a 50% chance of rain and possible heavy rainfall.
Sunday Through Tuesday Stay Wet
Sunday looks like the storm's main local impact day, with cloudy skies, a high near 69 and showers. The broader northern Utah forecast calls for roughly 1 to 3 inches of rain from late Saturday through Monday morning, with locally higher amounts in the mountains and other favored terrain.
Fast-rising streams, creeks, normally dry washes and canyon areas could become a concern Sunday evening, particularly near recent burn scars or other flood-sensitive locations. Monday remains stormy with a high near 66, followed by another unsettled day Tuesday with a high near 58; showers may linger into Wednesday before conditions trend drier Thursday.
