A report of a man running down the roadway with a gun near El Camino Real and San Marco Avenue sent San Bruno police racing to the scene Wednesday night, and by Thursday they had a 32-year-old San Francisco man booked on multiple charges. Officers arrived to find numerous spent shell casings in the area, and police determined that a shooting had occurred.

Gunfire Report Sparks Fast-Moving Investigation

San Bruno police responded to several reports of a man running in the roadway with a gun at 9:14 p.m. Wednesday near El Camino Real and San Marco Avenue, according to KRON4. That stretch runs along El Camino Real, part of the area's commercial corridor. After finding the shell casings and determining a shooting had occurred, investigators moved quickly to identify a suspect and develop what police described as substantial leads in the case.

Those leads pointed detectives to a residence on the 100 block of San Marco Avenue. Police searched the home. The search turned up an unregistered firearm, additional spent shell casings, and unspent ammunition, the station's report notes.

Suspect Booked on Multiple Charges

Police booked the 32-year-old suspect on multiple charges. He was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City, which is operated by the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office as the county's primary adult male detention facility for pretrial defendants awaiting court appearances in San Mateo County Superior Court.

Part of a Pattern Along the Border With San Francisco

This is not the first time San Bruno officers have pulled a felon off the street with an illegal firearm. Back in April, San Bruno police arrested a 33-year-old Oakland man after finding a loaded, reportedly stolen Sig Sauer handgun during a vehicle search.

Whether the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office has filed formal charges at arraignment remains unclear, and no information has been released on whether ballistic testing will link the recovered shell casings to any other unsolved gunfire incidents in the region.
