San Diego is starting Friday under cloudy skies, and light rain remains possible before the weekend turns substantially wetter. The city should reach about 71 degrees Friday, but the bigger weather story is still ahead: widespread showers are expected Saturday night into Sunday.
Friday’s rain chances remain modest at 40%, with mostly cloudy skies and light south winds.
Rain Turns More Serious Saturday Night
Saturday will be cloudy with a high near 72, and rain showers become likely after 5 p.m. The National Weather Service gives an 80% to 90% chance of at least 0.10 inch of rain from Saturday morning through Sunday night across the coast to the mountains, with heavier downpours possible, according to the National Weather Service San Diego.
Showers remain likely Sunday, with a high near 70 and winds potentially increasing. Forecasters say a thunderstorm cannot be ruled out Saturday night or Sunday morning.
High Tides Keep Coastal Roads In The Spotlight
A Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect for San Diego County coastal areas through 2 p.m. Friday. The National Weather Service expects Friday’s high tide to peak around noon at roughly 7.25 feet, which could cause minor coastal flooding.
Surf is expected to run around 3 to 5 feet Friday, while stronger winds Sunday could produce localized sets near 6 feet. Drivers should allow extra time near the coast, avoid barricades and never drive through water of unknown depth.
Sunny Reset Arrives Monday
The forecast makes a quick recovery Monday, when sunny skies and a high near 75 are expected, followed by a dry, warmer Tuesday, with coastal and valley highs mostly in the 70s. Wednesday and Thursday will be about 5 degrees cooler than Tuesday, with slight chances of showers returning. The wetter and more detailed weekend outlook is a substantive shift from Hoodline’s Thursday update.
