How San Jose Reviews Police Shootings
Officer-involved shootings in San Jose go through a formal review process. The City of San José Independent Police Auditor conducts objective reviews of misconduct investigations.
The San Jose Police Department also keeps public use-of-force data. Per the San Jose Police Department, the agency maintains interactive dashboards tracking use-of-force incidents dating back to January 2015.
A Recent, Separate Case
Sunday's shooting is not the only recent Bay Area case involving police gunfire. In a separate incident in January, 30-year-old Mohamed Husien was killed after he was run over and shot, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle. Police said in that case that an officer was shot in the head during the confrontation, fracturing his skull, and that the injured officer was taken to a hospital and expected to recover. Police said Husien had been carrying a 9mm semiautomatic pistol fitted with a 30-round extended clip.
No such details about weapons, injuries, or the suspect's background have been confirmed in Sunday's Locke Drive shooting. San Jose police have said only that the investigation remains active, and further information is expected as it becomes available.
