San Jose remains in a stretch of unusually hot October weather. The National Weather Service forecast calls for regional temperatures ranging from the mid-90s to near 105, with Wednesday and Thursday temperatures similar to Tuesday.
The National Weather Service’s Heat Advisory for the Santa Clara Valley and Eastern Hills now runs through 10 p.m. Thursday, October 8, according to the NWS San Francisco office. The extension is a substantive update to Hoodline’s earlier forecast, which had the advisory ending Wednesday night.
Hot Conditions Continue Through Thursday
Temperatures are expected to remain hot through Thursday, with Wednesday and Thursday temperatures similar to Tuesday.
Gentle to moderate northerly breezes are expected through Thursday. There is no rain in the forecast through the week, and the combination of heat, dry air and limited nighttime cooling is keeping conditions uncomfortable for people without reliable air conditioning.
Dry Heat Keeps Fire Weather Elevated
The hot spell is also raising fire-weather concerns in the interior, especially across higher terrain where dry fuels and poor overnight humidity recovery can keep vegetation primed to burn. The National Weather Service warns that elevated fire-weather conditions will persist through Thursday, with dry and gusty winds potentially developing over the weekend.
Residents should drink plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing and move strenuous outdoor activity to the morning or evening when possible. Children and pets should never be left in unattended vehicles, even during a quick stop.
Cooler Weekend Finally Arrives
Relief is expected Friday into the weekend, when temperatures are forecast to return to normal or slightly below normal.
The cooler pattern will coincide with gusty winds over the weekend. The National Weather Service says strong northerly breezes are expected over marine waters Friday into Saturday.
