San Jose is starting Sunday with cloudy skies and temperatures around 66 degrees, but the Santa Clara Valley will heat up quickly. The afternoon high is expected to reach about 97 degrees, with a Heat Advisory now running through 10 p.m. Wednesday, October 7.
Heat Builds By Afternoon
Temperatures should climb through the 80s by late morning and reach the mid-90s during the afternoon, while northwest winds remain light at up to about 8 mph. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory as intense inland heat builds.
The advisory is a notable extension from the previous outlook, which had the alert ending Sunday night. Monday is forecast near 91 degrees, Tuesday near 94 and Wednesday near 93, while overnight lows remain mild around 68 degrees. Hoodline previously reported on the weekend heat surge.
Relief Finally Arrives Late Week
Thursday should still be warm, with a high near 92, but temperatures are forecast to ease to about 87 Friday and 78 Saturday. Overnight lows will also become more comfortable, falling to roughly 65 Wednesday night and 59 Friday night.
The immediate coast may see pockets of morning fog and cooler temperatures, but that marine relief is expected to have limited reach into San Jose and the inland valley. In the city, skies should remain mostly sunny or clear through the week, with only a small chance of precipitation.
Plan Around The Hottest Hours
Residents should drink plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing and move strenuous outdoor activity to the early morning or evening. The advisory warns that people without effective cooling or adequate hydration can be affected and advises taking water to vulnerable people. Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle, even for a short errand.
