San Francisco is starting Sunday near 65 degrees, but the city is headed for a much hotter afternoon. Skies will be partly sunny, and a Heat Advisory remains in effect as the Bay Area heads into another unusually warm day.
The National Weather Service says the advisory covers San Francisco through 10 p.m. Sunday, with hot conditions and limited overnight relief. The agency is warning that temperatures across the region are running 10 to 20 degrees above normal, especially away from the immediate coast.
Heat Peaks Sunday Afternoon
Sunday’s high is expected to be around 81 degrees, with temperatures falling into the low 70s and upper 60s by evening. Winds will be light through much of the day, then turn west at roughly 7 to 10 mph late Sunday afternoon.
Rain is not expected, with the chance of precipitation staying near zero. The combination of sunshine, weak early winds and a shallow marine layer means even neighborhoods accustomed to cooler conditions could heat up quickly.
Hot Pattern Lingers Before A Weekend Cooldown
Monday and Tuesday should remain sunny with highs near 83 degrees, followed by a high around 81 on Wednesday. Temperatures then begin a steady retreat, reaching about 77 Thursday, 72 Friday and 69 Saturday.
Interior parts of the Bay Area may remain significantly hotter through midweek, with relief becoming widespread late in the week. Overnight lows will mostly stay in the upper 50s and low 60s, offering only modest relief during the warmest part of the pattern.
Heat Safety Remains The Priority
Residents should drink water regularly, wear lightweight clothing and consider shifting strenuous outdoor activity to the morning or evening. Children, older adults, people with health conditions and anyone without reliable cooling may be especially vulnerable.
Never leave children or pets in an unattended vehicle, even for a short errand. The advisory expires at 10 p.m. Sunday, but the unusually warm pattern is expected to continue across parts of the Bay Area through Wednesday.
