The San Jose Sharks are back in the Tank. The team's 2026-27 regular-season home opener against the Florida Panthers drops the puck Thursday at 7 p.m. at SAP Center, capping an Opening Weekend celebration that kicks off hours earlier with a free street festival right outside the arena.
According to nhl.com, the Sharks announced plans for an Opening Weekend Celebration beginning Thursday, October 1, with the free street festival running outside SAP Center from 3 to 6 p.m. The festival is set to feature player and special guest interviews, community activations, family-friendly entertainment, local food vendors and giveaways. General-admission doors at SAP Center are scheduled to open at 5:45 p.m., with Sharks365 member doors opening fifteen minutes earlier at 5:30 p.m.
Fans headed to the game are encouraged to be in their seats by 6:45 p.m. for the pregame presentation, and Opening Night will feature player introductions before puck drop, per the same nhl.com report. Everyone in attendance for the Oct. 1 game is also scheduled to receive a Sharks WillMack concert tee featuring Will Smith and Macklin Celebrini.
What's Planned Outside the Arena
Beyond the official team rundown, a preview from marinij.com describes a lowrider showcase, a spray-paint activity from Local Color, a bucking mechanical shark to ride, kids activities and food trucks rounding out the scene outside the arena. That same report ties the buzz to the team's summer Turn It All Teal marketing campaign, which it says helped stoke excitement for the new season downtown, and notes SAP Center is in the midst of a $425 million project known as the Teal Reimagination.
Sharks supporters are encouraged to wear teal as part of that Turn It All Teal push, according to nhl.com's event rundown. A Sharks Foundation beer booth at the festival is set to donate its net proceeds to the Sharks Foundation.
A Mayor's Post and a Conflicting Listing
San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan posted on X Thursday urging fans to “Join the free fan fest at Arena Green West,” then buy tickets to help pack the house for the opener, a message shared via Mayor Matt Mahan on X. Separately, a SAP Center event listing describes a different, paid Fan Fest, with tickets priced at $10 and Family Four Packs at $20, running from 1 to 5 p.m. and followed by a 5 p.m. Sharks Legends game, as detailed on sapcenter.com. Whether the mayor's free Arena Green West gathering and the SAP Center's paid Fan Fest are the same event or two separate ones is not clear from the available listings.
The SAP Center listing bills its Fan Fest, presented by Bay Area BMW Centers, as a chance to meet players, get photos on the ice or with the Shark Head, and catch programming on the main stage, with Fan Fest tickets including general-admission seating at the Legends game.
Puck Drop and the Weekend Ahead
Puck drop for the season opener is scheduled for 7 p.m., according to sanjose.org. The Sharks are also set to debut a new goal song for the 2026-27 season, per nhl.com's announcement.
The Opening Weekend celebration continues Saturday, Oct. 3, when the Sharks host the Los Angeles Kings; fans at that game are scheduled to receive a SaMisa poster featuring Sam Dickinson and Michael Misa, and the same 6:45 p.m. arrival guidance applies for the second game. That Saturday, the San Jose Barracuda are set to host their own home opener at Tech CU Arena at 3 p.m. As with all of it, the Sharks note that plans for the pregame festivities remain subject to change and weather permitting.
