Skims has opened its first Utah storefront inside City Creek Center, the downtown Salt Lake City mall owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The shapewear and loungewear brand founded by Kim Kardashian now occupies a spot on Level 1's East Block at 50 S. Main Street, selling bodysuits, loungewear and underwear in neutral colors across a wide range of sizes.

The opening was first reported by Axios, which noted that City Creek Center is located in downtown Salt Lake City and owned by the church. Natalie Watson, the center's director of marketing and business development, told Millcreek City Lifestyle there is tremendous consumer awareness and excitement around Skims' arrival. She added that the brand's arrival reflects the maturity of the market and recognizes Salt Lake City's community strength in the eyes of national retailers.

Skims launched in 2019 and has since built out retail locations in New York City, Los Angeles, Dubai and other major cities, the report notes. The Salt Lake City location adds Utah to that growing map at a moment when the company is pouring fresh capital into brick-and-mortar growth nationwide.

A $5 Billion Brand Betting Big on Physical Stores

In November 2025, Skims closed a $225 million Series D funding round led by Goldman Sachs Alternatives, pushing its private valuation to $5 billion, according to Retail Dive. The raise was earmarked specifically to fund global store expansion and category growth as the company's net sales approached $1 billion. That valuation, per Business Insider, now exceeds the combined market capitalization of Victoria's Secret, valued at $2.86 billion, and Under Armour, valued at $1.98 billion — a milestone the brand reached within six years of its founding.

Skims is now pushing hard into physical retail after years as a digital-first brand. According to reporting from Modaes Global, the company is targeting more than 50 company-owned stores by the end of 2026 and eventually more than 100 locations worldwide, having opened its first permanent standalone store in Washington, D.C. in June 2024 before fanning out to other major metro markets. Before building its own stores, Skims tested offline demand through wholesale deals, launching inside 25 Nordstrom locations in February 2020 before expanding into Saks Fifth Avenue and Selfridges, according to research published on ResearchGate — a partnership that reportedly generated two billion media impressions and signaled strong in-person consumer interest.

The brand has also been expanding beyond its original shapewear lineup. Skims introduced men's apparel in 2023, acquired Kim Kardashian's SKKN beauty brand in 2025, and debuted NikeSKIMS last September, an activewear collaboration with Nike.

Inside the Mall Built With Church Real Estate Money

City Creek Center opened in March 2012 as a $1.5 billion to $2 billion downtown redevelopment, funded entirely in cash by real estate entities owned by the church rather than member tithing, according to Greenroofs.com. The 23-acre complex replaced two aging malls directly across from historic Temple Square. Its 700,000-square-foot retail portion, designed by ZGF Architects and SWA Group, includes a fully retractable glass roof, a pedestrian skybridge spanning Main Street, and a 1,200-foot re-creation of the original City Creek, and the property holds Silver LEED certification for Neighborhood Development.

Store hours follow the center's broader policy: Skims operates Monday through Saturday and closes on Sundays, matching the operating schedule set across City Creek Center's tenants by church investment entities, per the brand's own store locator.

Joining Luxury Names and Fresh 2026 Arrivals

Skims now sits among a high-end tenant roster at City Creek Center that includes Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co., Dutch suiting retailer SuitSupply and Swiss chocolatier Läderach, according to City Lifestyle. Mall management has described the market as mature and said national retailers recognize Salt Lake City's community strength. The Axios report also notes that North Face plans to open its own store at City Creek by the end of 2026.

Skims' debut adds to a run of 2026 leasing activity at the center, which also includes Utah-founded home lifestyle company Lola Blankets, per City Creek Center's own announcements. The mall previously welcomed Sal y Limón's taco concept in July, part of what center officials describe as a routine refresh of local and national retail offerings.

The Salt Lake City opening follows a string of recent Skims debuts across the country, including a first San Antonio location at La Cantera and a first Carolinas store in Charlotte's SouthPark, as Hoodline has reported. Utah now joins that expanding list as Skims works toward its stated goal of more than 50 company-owned stores by the close of 2026.
