An Elgin golf company is teeing up plans for an indoor golf simulator lounge in St. Charles, and city officials have already given the concept a thumbs up. Sixty Fore Golf Club, LLC is proposing to build out two to three simulator bays inside Suite 500 at 1519 East Main Street, a multi-tenant building that already caters to the area's recreation and entertainment crowd.
The 1,849-square-foot space would let parties rent simulator bays by the hour, according to Shaw Local. The plans call for no exterior changes to the building, and the business would rely on the existing parking already serving the site.
City staff reviewing the proposal said it fits the neighborhood well, noting the golf-simulator concept is compatible with the existing businesses and surrounding commercial area. Staff also said the lounge expands local golf and entertainment opportunities, supports the existing St. Charles golf community, and offers flexible access to premium golf simulator technology, per the same report.
Public Hearing and Committee Approval
The St. Charles Plan Commission held a public hearing on the proposal on Sept. 22, the outlet reports. Thirteen days later, the St. Charles City Council's Committee of the Whole unanimously approved a special use ordinance for the business on Oct. 5. A final City Council vote is scheduled for the council's next meeting, though the outcome of that vote has not yet been determined.
A separate city planning report listed the Sixty Fore proposal at 1519 E. Main St., Suite 500, as an indoor recreation use within M1 zoning, requiring a special use designation.
Joining an Already Crowded Recreation Hub
The building at 1519 East Main Street is no stranger to recreation-focused tenants. It currently houses 12 other suites, mostly recreational and entertainment-oriented businesses, including a dance studio and an escape room, the article notes.
Golf simulator lounges have been popping up in commercial strips well beyond the Fox Valley. St. Charles is already home to Mike's Golf Center, a year-round, 24/7 golf instruction facility that packs 14 high-end simulators, two chipping and putting greens, and a lounge area into a 10,000-square-foot space, according to Mike's Golf Center. Elsewhere in the Midwest, a venture called Par IQ has announced plans to open a similar concept at 6500 Martway Street in Mission, Kansas, offering three 15-foot-wide private bays with high-tech simulators, as reported by Johnson County Post.
No opening date has been set for the St. Charles lounge. Sixty Fore Golf Club has not yet said when it is aiming to open, and the business's final path forward still hinges on the City Council's upcoming vote.
