, the extent of the victim's injuries was unknown at the time of the post, and the department noted that officers were working to develop suspect information as the investigation continued. The department cautioned that the details in its post were subject to change as the investigation progressed, and said updates would be posted to the same thread when available.

A Mixed Picture on Denver Violent Crime
The South Irving Street stabbing arrives amid a complicated year for violent crime statistics in Denver. Citywide NIBRS data through October showed aggravated assault reports down 9.2% compared with the same period in 2025, with overall violent crime down 8.1%, according to a previous Hoodline report. That same reporting found Denver logged 1,877 aggravated assault incidents between January 1 and July 1, 2026, down from 2,069 during the same stretch the year before, while Colorado's statewide violent crime rate dropped 10.7% in 2025, including a 9.0% reduction in aggravated assaults.
Yet homicides moved in the opposite direction earlier this year. Denver recorded 26 homicides from January 1 through July 1 — up 37% from the same period the previous year — according to Denver Police Department data cited by Axios. The outlet also reported that the city's homicide total remained 15% below its three-year average during that reporting window, even as gun-related violent crime fell 21% compared with the same point the previous year.
Other Recent Stabbings Around Denver
South Irving Street is not the only stretch of the city where police have responded to a stabbing in recent weeks. A separate stabbing reported in the 3700 block of North Jackson Street also sent one victim to an area hospital, with suspect information still being developed, per the earlier Hoodline report. That same account described an earlier October stabbing near Larimer Street in which officers found a victim who had been stabbed three times and took a suspect into custody following a reported pursuit and crash.
A more severe case unfolded over the July Fourth weekend, when a triple stabbing near Paco Sanchez Park left one woman dead, according to Axios. The Denver Gazette reported that Denver police arrested 40-year-old Bobby Tafoya in connection with that fatal stabbing, which also injured two other people. Three people were transported to a local hospital in that incident, and police later said the adult female victim died there, per the Denver Gazette's account.
No such outcome has been confirmed in Sunday's South Irving Street case. Police have not released a suspect description or indicated whether the stabbing is connected to any other recent incident in the city, and the investigation remained active as of the department's last update.
