Stillwell's Bakery & Cafe, a Wailuku staple since 1994, is getting ready to open a second location inside the Central Pacific Bank building at 145 Ho‘okele Street in Kahului. The new cafe is expected to open around mid-November, with a grand opening planned for Dec. 9, pending final confirmation, according to Aloha State Daily.
The expansion marks a significant step for a bakery that has served the Maui community from its Wailuku location for more than 30 years, according to Aloha State Daily. The Kahului spot will be a smaller cafe concept with a streamlined menu, offering bestselling pastries, breakfast and lunch items, and specialty coffee drinks. Customers will not need to be Central Pacific Bank customers to walk in and order.
What's on the Menu at the New Spot
Shoppers and bank patrons alike can expect Stillwell's famous cream horns and freshly baked pastries at the Kahului cafe. The cream horns are made with flaky puff pastry filled with pastry cream, dipped in milk chocolate and dusted with powdered sugar, a recipe the bakery has built its reputation on.
Two items will be exclusive to the new location: a Maine lobster roll and mini eclairs, as reported by Aloha State Daily. It's a notable addition for a bakery known primarily for fresh-baked pastries and breads, suggesting the Kahului cafe will carve out its own identity even as it leans on Stillwell's classics.
Hours and Timeline for the Opening
When it opens, the Kahului cafe will run Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., staying closed on Sundays. Stillwell's plans to expand those operating hours as the business grows, as noted by Aloha State Daily.
The timeline has shifted since the bakery first announced its expansion plans. Back in November 2025, Stillwell's said it was projected to open a second location in early 2026, a date that has since moved to this November and December window. The bakery's Wailuku shop, meanwhile, continues serving breakfast daily from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m., lunch from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and dinner from 4 to 8 p.m.
A Bank Lobby With a Bakery Twist
The Kahului cafe sits inside a working Central Pacific Bank branch, an arrangement the bakery says is partly modeled on Tidepools Marketplace, which is adjacent to Central Pacific Bank's main branch in downtown Honolulu, per a report from Aloha State Daily, and often hosts pop-ups featuring baked goods, flowers and themed foods. The pairing gives Stillwell's a built-in flow of foot traffic from bank customers while opening the door to anyone craving a cream horn or coffee.
Stillwell's was established by Roy and Louise Stillwell and Jerry Gibson in 1994, Aloha State Daily reported, and the bakery has framed the Kahului expansion as a way to give its employees opportunities to grow alongside the business. For a company that has spent three decades rooted in Wailuku, the move into a bank building across town represents a new chapter without straying from the pastries that built its name.
