Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible across parts of the area Tuesday afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service forecast discussion mentions this possibility.
Isolated Showers Possible Tuesday
Precipitation Develops Wednesday
Widespread precipitation is expected to develop Wednesday in southern Utah and spread north, according to the National Weather Service forecast discussion.
Late-Week Storm Brings Widespread Precipitation
The late-week storm is expected to bring precipitation across the forecast area. From Wednesday through Friday, precipitation could total 0.5 to 1.5 inches in many parts of the forecast area, with locally higher amounts. The National Weather Service’s regional outlook says some locations could receive 2 to 2.5 inches.
The broader National Weather Service discussion warns of flash-flood concerns mainly across southern and central Utah, while higher northern Utah mountains could see 3 to 6 inches of snow above 9,000 feet.
A slow-moving low sliding down the California coast is helping draw moisture into Utah ahead of the late-week storm. The National Weather Service’s regional forecast discussion calls for precipitation across the state, with the highest flood threat in southern and central Utah; northern Utah’s higher terrain could also see accumulating snow Friday.
The Flood Watches do not include Salt Lake Valley: they cover selected areas of southern, central and eastern Utah from Wednesday into Thursday. Heavy runoff could flood normally dry washes and slot canyons. The National Weather Service warns of flash-flood danger in slot canyons and dry washes.
Warmer And Drier Weather Possible By The Weekend
Warmer, drier weather may return over the weekend, though confidence is low. No watches, warnings or advisories are listed for Salt Lake Valley, though Flood Watches are in effect for selected areas elsewhere in Utah.
