After clear skies and temperatures in the mid-60s Sunday morning, San Diego faces a sharp midweek turn. October 19 will bring sunshine and a high near 80 degrees before cooler air, coastal fog, rain and possible thunderstorms move in later this week.
Warm Monday Gives Way To Foggy Mornings
Monday will stay sunny, with patchy fog possible and southwest winds reaching up to 10 mph. Tonight will be partly cloudy with patchy fog developing after 11 p.m. and a low near 64 degrees.
Tuesday will be cooler, topping out near 78 degrees, with patchy fog into the morning before partly sunny skies return. The shift follows Sunday's warmer weather and continues the coastal cooling trend outlined in Hoodline's earlier forecast.
Beach Hazards Continue Through Tuesday Morning
A Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect for San Diego County coastal areas through Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service says surf will run 3 to 6 feet, with local sets reaching 7 feet, especially along south- and southwest-facing beaches.
Those conditions can produce dangerous rip currents and breaking waves, with enough force to sweep people from beaches or rocks. Swimmers should follow posted warnings, avoid entering rough water and stay near a lifeguard-protected area.
Showers And Thunderstorms Arrive Wednesday
The wetter pattern begins Wednesday, when a slight chance of showers develops during the day before showers and thunderstorms become more likely late Wednesday and Wednesday night.
Thursday looks like the coolest and wettest day of the stretch, with showers and thunderstorms likely, partly sunny breaks and a high near 69 degrees. Rain is expected through Thursday, followed by returning sunshine Friday and a warmer, drier weekend.
