San Francisco is waking up to clear skies and temperatures around 62 degrees Saturday, but the city is headed for one more unusually warm afternoon before fall makes a forceful return. Highs should reach about 82 degrees, with sunshine giving way to cooler conditions later in the day.

Sunny Saturday Comes With Beach Danger

Saturday is sunny, with a return to onshore flow. Along Pacific Coast beaches, however, a National Weather Service Beach Hazards Statement runs through Sunday evening because of sneaker waves, strong rip currents and breaking waves of 7 to 12 feet.

Anyone heading to Ocean Beach or other Pacific-facing shorelines should stay out of the water and away from rocks, jetties and piers. Waves can surge across the shoreline with little warning, so the safest beach plan this weekend is to admire the ocean from a safe distance and never turn your back on it.

Temperatures Drop Nearly 20 Degrees Sunday

The weekend forecast takes a sharp turn Sunday, when the high falls to about 66 degrees and west-southwest winds strengthen to 5 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 22 mph. Sunday night will be partly cloudy, breezier and cooler, with gusts potentially reaching 25 mph.

That cooling trend expands on Hoodline's earlier forecast, which flagged Friday as unusually warm and said Saturday would be sunny but cooler. Monday brings partly sunny skies and a high near 62 degrees.

Rain Chances Arrive Tuesday

Clouds build Monday night, with a chance of showers after early Tuesday morning. Tuesday has the best rain potential in the near-term forecast, though the chance remains limited, followed by a slight chance of light rain Tuesday night and Wednesday.

Thursday should turn partly sunny with a high near 63 degrees, while Friday returns to mostly sunny skies and a high near 65. For outdoor plans, Saturday is the warmest bet, Sunday is the breeziest, and the middle of next week may require a jacket that can handle a little rain.
