Swig, the Utah-based chain known for its customizable “dirty sodas,” plans to open a new location in Woodstock at 9980 GA Highway 92, with construction plans calling for the conversion of an existing building into a drive-thru. The building sits at the busy intersection of Highway 92, also known as Alabama Road, and Main Street, and it's currently occupied by a longstanding Subway restaurant.

According to WhatNow, the construction plans describe transforming the existing building into a Swig drive-thru location, though an opening timeline remains unclear. WhatNow reports it reached out to Swig for additional details on the Woodstock project but did not hear back prior to publication.

Per ToneToATL, the Subway location will soon close to make way for the new Swig. The building, constructed in 1987, measures 2,296 square feet and sits on about half an acre, and the site's existing drive-thru lane is expected to be retained for Swig's use once the conversion is complete.

Part of a Bigger Atlanta-Area Push

The Woodstock project follows Swig's debut in metro Atlanta earlier in October, when the chain opened its first Brookhaven location. That shop replaced an old McDonald's in the Cambridge Square shopping center off Ashford Dunwoody Road, according to Atlanta News First, which also noted it was Georgia's second Swig after an earlier opening in Fort Oglethorpe near the Tennessee border.

Woodstock isn't the only metro Atlanta site in the pipeline. The same ToneToATL report counts at least three more locations in the works, including one planned as part of the Birch House development near Gwinnett Field in Lawrenceville. Atlanta Magazine has separately reported that Swig has plans already in motion for Woodstock, Kennesaw, Buford, Cumming and Snellville.

WhatNow has also previously reported plans for Swig at 2960 North Druid Hills Road, where plans called for demolishing the current building in favor of a 1,000-square-foot structure with a double drive-through. Construction there was expected to begin the following spring, with a target opening in fall 2026, per that same outlet's earlier report. The North Druid Hills Road location had been abandoned by August.

A Franchise Model Built Around Small Footprints

Swig's expansion has leaned heavily on a franchise model that favors small-footprint stores paired with popular drive-through lanes, WhatNow has reported. That approach appears built for busy intersections like the Highway 92 and Main Street corner the company is now eyeing in Woodstock.

The chain's growth numbers back up the aggressive buildout. QSR Magazine reports Swig's year-to-date revenue is up 39 percent, with same-store sales climbing more than 8 percent, alongside 191 million social-media impressions in the first six months of the year and an average monthly reach of 24.1 million.

Reported location counts for the chain vary depending on the source and timing. Atlanta News First has put the total at nearly 150 locations nationwide, while QSR Magazine described Swig as a 124-unit brand; ToneToATL has cited figures above 175 locations, while Atlanta Magazine has cited 175 locations across 17 states.

What's on the Menu

Swig's signature dirty sodas combine soda with flavors, spices, fruit and other customizations, according to WhatNow. The chain's menu includes drinks like Dr. Spice, made with Dr. Pepper, cinnamon, coconut and half and half; Princess Peach, which blends Dr. Pepper with peach and coconut cream; and This Bliss, built from Diet Coke, cranberry and fresh lime.

Beyond the dirty sodas, Swig also offers water-based Refreshers, energy drinks called Revivers, and a limited selection of desserts and snacks. For now, Woodstock residents curious about a Highway 92 location will have to wait for more concrete word on timing, since no opening date has been set.
