A Corridor With a Troubled Recent History
The shooting lands on a stretch of Winchester Road that has become a flashpoint for late-night violence in 2026. Hoodline previously reported that the commercial corridor along Winchester Road has experienced recurring late-night and pre-dawn shootings throughout the year, prompting targeted patrol interventions from police. That same stretch was the site of an August incident in a bar parking lot that injured one person and marked the fourth incident there in a matter of months.
The neighborhood itself, Parkway Village, sits within the 38118 ZIP code, which recorded 8,565 total crime offenses in 2024 — the highest overall crime volume of any ZIP code in Memphis — while ranking third citywide in homicides with 30, according to city crime analytics reported by the Memphis Flyer. Parkway Village had more immigration arrests than any other part of Memphis.
Citywide Numbers Trending Down, Local Hotspots Persist
That concentrated law enforcement presence comes even as Memphis overall has seen violent crime fall sharply. Police data documented by Wikipedia shows citywide crime dropped to a 25-year low across major categories in 2025, with murders falling to 184 compared to 250 in 2024 and 351 in 2023. Despite that broader decline, pockets like Parkway Village and the Winchester Road corridor continue to see concentrated incidents of gunfire.
Parkway Village has had its share of serious violence in recent memory. Hoodline reported in March that an arrest and first-degree murder charge were made in connection with a September 2025 shooting. NeighborhoodScout data from this year describes Parkway Village as a suburban southeast Memphis neighborhood developed largely in the mid-20th century, where 15.9% of residential real estate units remain vacant.
Potential Charges and How to Submit Tips
Should a suspect be identified and charged, Tennessee law lays out a clear framework for violent gunfire cases. Under Tennessee Code Annotated § 39-13-102, an assault with a deadly weapon that causes bodily injury is charged as a Class C felony, carrying penalties of 3 to 15 years in prison and fines up to $10,000, according to Justia Law. A reckless-endangerment conviction involving a motor vehicle as a deadly weapon was classified as a Class E felony.
