New Orleans police declared a SWAT roll Wednesday morning after a woman reportedly barricaded herself inside a home in the 7400 block of 7 Oaks Road in New Orleans East. Officers set up a perimeter around the residence and urged nearby residents to steer clear while the standoff unfolded.
According to WDSU, the New Orleans Police Department responded to the scene and established the perimeter near the home for public safety. The public was asked to avoid the area until the scene is cleared, per that report. A separate account from WGNO likewise confirms that officers declared the SWAT roll on 7 Oaks Road Wednesday, Oct. 14, and that police said people should avoid the area at this time.
Details on how the standoff began, or how long it might last, were not immediately available in the reporting. It's also worth noting that a separate nola.com report describes a man named Eric Watson barricading himself with multiple weapons on Newcastle Street on Aug. 5, 2026, with a SWAT roll around 4 a.m.; police had attempted to take him into custody, after which he barricaded himself — a distinct case from the 7 Oaks Road incident on Oct. 14, 2026.
New Orleans East Has Seen Standoffs Before
Wednesday's SWAT roll isn't the first in the area this year. On Aug. 5, NOPD declared a SWAT roll in the Seabrook section of New Orleans East after a man barricaded himself inside a home with multiple weapons, according to nola.com. That operation, launched around 4 a.m. in the 7700 block of Newcastle Street, ended with the suspect, 36-year-old Eric Watson, in custody by 8 a.m. The outlet reported that the victim in that case, a woman who had been assaulted with a weapon, managed to get out of the residence safely before the standoff even started, and that Watson ultimately surrendered without incident after his mother arrived at the scene and convinced him to give himself up.
Another standoff played out in September, when NOPD concluded a SWAT roll in the Holy Cross neighborhood following reports of gunfire inside a home, as Fox 8 reported. Officers established a perimeter while members of the NOPD Special Operations Division assumed control of the scene. Two women eventually walked out of the residence on their own, and officers were able to contact them safely without using force; both were taken to a local hospital for evaluation, and the department said no injuries were reported to officers or anyone else involved.
As of Wednesday morning, it remained unclear how the situation on 7 Oaks Road would resolve. Residents in New Orleans East are being asked to continue avoiding the block while police work to bring the standoff to a close.
