Zionsville officers rescued four kittens from a car engine.
Autumn's rescue unfolded in darkness and rain, with the kitten trapped seven feet below ground.

Animals Can Become Trapped in Drains
Storm drains have proven to be unlikely traps for animals well beyond Zionsville this year. In Georgia, firefighters, animal control officers and utility workers teamed up to rescue several dogs found trapped in a storm drain, according to UPI.
It isn't only dogs that wind up stuck below street level. Police in southeastern Pennsylvania responded to a baby deer trapped in a sewer drain, per WFMZ, while first responders in Cary worked for hours to free a fawn that had been trapped in a storm drain for days, according to The News & Observer. Those cases, like Autumn's, underscore how storm drains can become dangerous dead ends for small animals that wander or fall in.
For now, Autumn's story has a clean resolution: a scared kitten pulled from a dark, flooded drain and checked out by a vet.
