A 23-year-old man died early Saturday after being shot at least once near Broad Street and 10th Street in downtown Augusta, a stretch of road with a long and bloody record of overnight violence. Treyvon J. Grandison of Augusta was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved, according to authorities. The Richmond County Sheriff's Office says the investigation remains open, with no suspect or motive disclosed.
According to WRDW, Grandison was shot at least once at Broad Street and 10th Street before emergency crews rushed him to the Wellstar MCG hospital emergency room, where he was pronounced dead at 1:52 a.m. A separate account from WJBF identifies the victim as 23-year-old Trey'von Jordan Grandison of Stevens Creek Road and states that Richmond County deputies responded to the 900 block of Broad Street at about 1:52 a.m. after reports of shots fired. The two outlets differ slightly on the victim's hometown address and the precise block of the shooting, and neither detail has been independently reconciled.
An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death, the station reports. The Richmond County Sheriff's Office says the investigation is ongoing, and no suspect details or possible motive have been released.
A Corner With a Violent History
Broad Street and 10th Street has been the site of past overnight incidents and violence in recent years, the station's report notes. On June 12, 2022, an overnight weekend shooting at that same intersection killed 21-year-old Logan Etterle, who according to the Augusta Chronicle was shot at 10th and Broad streets and pronounced dead at the scene at 2:56 a.m. In April 2022, a man was shot in the neck during another overnight weekend incident at the location, and a second victim drove himself to the hospital, per the same account.
The violence at that intersection has continued in the years since. In June 2024, a man opened fire into a crowd at Broad Street and 10th Street; deputies shot him, and in total three people were wounded, including the gunman. Just weeks later, on July 5, 2024, a man was arrested on suspicion of throwing an explosive device into a crowd of pedestrians at the same corner.
Downtown Homicides and Shootings by the Numbers
A broader look at downtown Augusta crime found 10 homicides from 2019 through 2025, with WRDW's analysis describing the numbers as flat across the board, with no real increase or decrease. Almost all of those homicides happened between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., and most downtown shootings since 2019 occurred between midnight and 3 a.m., with many stemming from fights in those areas, the analysis found. At least 19 of the 23 shooting incidents identified in that review were listed as happening on Broad Street, and at least three of the killings happened in the 700 block of Broad Street, near the Augusta Common.
That 700 block has its own grim record. In 2022, Percy Johnson was shot and killed nearby on Broad Street. More recently, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting on the 700 block of Broad Street where deputies found a man shot once in the chest, and the victim later died at a hospital, according to WFXG. Authorities arrested 62-year-old Victor Prince of Augusta in connection with that homicide, charging him with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Other Recent Violence Downtown
Downtown's danger has not been limited to adults caught in late-night altercations. On March 28, 2023, 13-year-old Buddy Brown was fatally shot at the Richmond Summit Apartments near Seventh and Broad streets, per WRDW's reporting. And in April 2025, two people were charged in a downtown Augusta shooting involving a 61-year-old man who suffered a gunshot wound to the head, according to the Augusta Chronicle.
No arrest or motive information tied to Grandison's death has been made public as of Saturday morning, and the Richmond County Sheriff's Office has indicated only that the case remains under investigation. The circumstances connecting this shooting, if any, to the area's past violence have not been established.
