45 East has fired a security guard after two men alleged he assaulted them outside the Southeast Portland nightclub early Sunday. The club also barred both men from returning, while Portland police sought surveillance footage as part of an investigation, KOIN reported.
The men’s account of their injuries came from the mother of one of them, who told KOIN that both were hospitalized and that her son needed stitches. The club gave a different account of how the confrontation began: it said employees had asked the pair to leave and that a physical altercation followed. 45 East said it took action against both sides, but the allegations about what happened remain under investigation.
Police contacted the club’s general manager to obtain video, according to KOIN. The station reported that police had no further information about the alleged assault at the time; the available account does not establish whether charges or an arrest followed.
A separate Portland case ended in a guilty plea
A distinct case offers local context for how allegations involving venue security can reach the courts, but it does not establish a pattern or resolve what happened at 45 East. In a case arising from a December 2022 incident outside El Mojito PDX on Southeast Stark Street, former security-company co-owner Jesus Mendez III Ayala was sentenced to more than two years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree attempted assault, KOIN reported. That outcome concerned a different incident and defendant; the 45 East allegations remain unresolved in the reporting cited here.
