A woman is dead and a married couple is seriously injured after a two-vehicle crash shut down U.S. 52 in Anderson Township late Saturday night. Donita Bessent died from her injuries after her Honda CR-V collided with a Kia driven by a man whose wife was riding beside him, according to authorities.
Deputies responded shortly after 10 p.m. to the collision on U.S. 52 near Eight Mile Road, according to FOX19. Bessent, who was driving a 2025 Honda CR-V, had pulled out from Eight Mile Road and was attempting to make a left turn onto westbound U.S. 52 when the crash occurred, sheriff's officials said.
Driver Failed to Yield, Deputies Say
Sheriff's officials said Bessent failed to yield while entering the highway and was struck on the driver's side by a westbound 2012 Kia. Bessent was rushed to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where she died from her injuries, the station's report states. The driver of the Kia and his wife, who was riding as his passenger, were also taken to the hospital with serious injuries, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputies said neither speed nor impairment is believed to be a factor in the crash, per the same account. An Air Care medical helicopter was asked to respond to the scene but was later called off. The crash closed U.S. 52 in Anderson Township and remains under investigation.
Second Fatal Crash at Same Intersection This Year
This is not the first deadly wreck at Eight Mile Road and U.S. 52 this year. A separate fatal crash happened near that same intersection just after 3 p.m. on April 27, according to FOX19, though WCPO reported the time as around 4 p.m. that Monday. In that crash, Cara Skeene, 35, of New Richmond, was charged with vehicular manslaughter after a criminal complaint alleged she failed to stop at a stop sign on Eight Mile Road and struck a vehicle traveling westbound on the highway.
Rickie Wilson, 69, was seriously injured in that April crash and taken to UC Medical Center, where he later died, WCPO reported. Charges were also pending against the driver of the other vehicle involved in that collision, according to the outlet.
No citations or charges have been announced in connection with Saturday night's crash, and investigators have not released additional details about the Kia driver or his wife. The Ohio State Highway Patrol maintains a crash dashboard tracking five years of statewide crash data by roadway, severity and time of day, and a 2025 state fact sheet recorded 53 fatal crashes in Hamilton County.
