Police told the station Hernandez was arrested within half an hour of the shooting in the 4800 block of South Hamlin Avenue, several miles from the scene on South Wood Street.

Charges Stem From Police Account of the Shooting

The attempted murder charge against Hernandez is tied to the allegation that he shot the 38-year-old victim, per the police account relayed by the station. He also faces aggravated battery and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon charges stemming from the same incident, the outlet's report states. FOX 32 Chicago said its report was based on information released by the Chicago Police Department.

A Separate, Larger Shooting Nearby

The South Wood Street shooting that led to Hernandez's arrest is not the only recent gun violence to hit that stretch of the city. In a separate incident, ABC7 reported that seven people were shot, two of them fatally, in a mass shooting in the 5100 block of South Wood Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. That shooting happened at about 12:26 a.m. Friday, when police said two suspects approached a group of people standing outside, pulled out guns and opened fire, according to the station's report. There is nothing in available reporting connecting that mass shooting to the case against Hernandez; the two incidents occurred at different times and different blocks of South Wood Street.

In that separate case, Cook County Crime Stoppers announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest, the station reported. No arrests in that shooting have been detailed in available reporting.
