A pop-up selling colorful plush flowers made from fabric is opening in Portland this month, bringing artist Cj Hendry's traveling Flower Shop installation to the Pearl District. The Australia-born, New York-based artist's project is launching at 914 NW Everett St., set to run daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Wednesday, Nov. 18.
As reported by KOIN.com, each flower at the Portland pop-up costs $10, and visitors who buy nine flowers get a tenth one free. Organizers plan to add new inventory throughout the run, according to the station's report.
Hendry has said the Flower Shop concept grew out of her earlier Flower Market exhibitions, which began to unite communities around a shared enjoyment of flowers, per the same account. She's described the goal of the traveling pop-ups as sharing that experience with people in different cities, with each stop offering its own twist.
A Tour That Spans Continents
Hendry has launched large-scale Flower Market exhibitions in public spaces around the world, including stops in Singapore, Sydney and Abu Dhabi, the station notes. Permanent Flower Market exhibitions have also debuted in New York and Hong Kong. Beyond Portland, the Flower Shop is also stopping in Phoenix, Mexico City and Melbourne this month.
A Los Angeles stop is part of the same expansion, with Time Out describing the venture as a 14-city tour. That outlet reported the L.A. pop-up would run daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Nov. 8 to 21 at 6 Rose Avenue in Venice, with flowers also priced at $10 each and the tenth free. Time Out also reported that the Los Angeles flowers were available first-come, first-served, with no ticket or RSVP required.
Hendry told Time Out that each temporary installation features unique floral variations, distinctive surprises and a tailored narrative, rather than a single repeated setup city to city.
Pricing and Access Have Varied by City
Not every stop on the tour has used the same pricing model. When Hendry's Flower Market came to Rockefeller Center, each guest received one plush flower for free, with additional flowers costing $5 each, according to amNewYork. That arrangement differs from the $10-per-flower setup reported at both the Los Angeles and Portland locations.
Previous Stops Drew Long Lines and Overcrowding
Hendry's previous events have caused three-hour waits and have at times been shut down due to overcrowding, per KOIN.com's reporting. The most dramatic example came in 2024, when the debut Flower Market installation on Roosevelt Island was shut down by the NYPD because of overcrowding, according to Rockefeller Center. Hendry rebuilt the installation overnight in a Brooklyn warehouse, where the wait reached three hours on the final day.
Crowds have followed the project overseas as well. In Singapore, The Straits Times reported waits of up to 120 minutes on opening day, while some visitors to the Sydney installation in May waited up to seven hours to get in. The Singapore venue, which featured more than 30 types of plush flowers including eight designs based on local species, used timed registrations, controlled venue capacity, managed entry and exit flows, and queue marshals to handle the crowds. The Straits Times also found more than 10 resale listings for the plush flowers on the marketplace Carousell, including a seven-stem bouquet listed for as much as $91.
No details on ticketing, capacity limits or expected wait times for the Portland pop-up have been independently confirmed ahead of its opening.
