Dimensions Dance Theatre of Miami takes the stage Saturday, November 14, at 8 p.m. for a fall performance the company is billing as the first show of its 10th anniversary season. The program, set for the Moss Cultural Arts Center, brings back Tara Lee's Under the Olive Tree alongside three other works, marking a decade since two former Miami City Ballet principal dancers set out to build a contemporary ballet company from scratch.
The company describes the evening as the start of its 10th Anniversary season, according to Dimensions Dance Theatre of Miami's own fall-program page. That framing lines up with how Miami's Community Newspapers described the show, though not every outlet agrees on the exact anniversary year — a separate Artburst Miami report on a summer collaboration referred to the company as just nearing its 10th anniversary in 2027, so the precise milestone year remains something the company's own materials and outside coverage frame differently.
What's On The Program
Headlining the night is the return of Under the Olive Tree, choreographed by Tara Lee, which depicts what unfolds when gods from the heavens spend time with human beings on earth. The bill also includes Jimmy Orrante's Watercolor, Christopher Wheeldon's Liturgy and Vicente Nebrada's A Handel Celebration, rounding out a program that mixes a returning favorite with established repertoire from well-known choreographers.
The company calls itself a professional contemporary ballet company dedicated to reimagining ballet and making it accessible to all. Dimensions says it has established a key role in Miami's cultural scene through its performances and community outreach programs, which it says create opportunities for emerging dancers and choreographers.
Ten Years From Two Former Miami City Ballet Stars
Dimensions Dance Theatre of Miami was founded in 2016 by Jennifer Kronenberg and Carlos Guerra, both former Miami City Ballet principal dancers, who built the company around a full season of performances and outreach programs. The company says its outreach work partners with local organizations to help children, youth and underserved areas learn about and enjoy ballet.
In the years since, Dimensions has picked up invitations well beyond South Florida. The company has performed at The Joyce Theater's Summer Ballet Festival, Jacob's Pillow Inside/Out Summer Dance Festival, the Kennedy Center's Arts Across America live digital series and the International Ballet Festival of Miami. A 2018 Pointe Magazine profile covered the young troupe. The company says that track record has earned it local and national recognition for its innovative repertoire and dynamic artistry.
Tickets And Who Can Attend
The fall performance is recommended for all ages, and general tickets range from $25 to $45. Student tickets cost $10 but require a valid student ID at pickup. General audience tickets are available through mosscenter.org, the Moss Center box office, or by phone at 786-573-5300, while student tickets can be obtained through the Moss Center box office in person or by that same phone number. The fall performance project is supported by a grant from South Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs.
