A 22-year-old Fort Myers man died Thursday after his electric scooter collided with a minivan while he was trying to cross the westbound lanes of Daniels Parkway near Brookshire Lake Boulevard, shutting down the roadway for hours. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Gulf Coast News, the young man was riding the scooter and attempting to travel south across the westbound lanes when a 42-year-old Fort Myers man driving a 2022 Chrysler Pacifica west on Daniels Parkway toward the intersection struck him. The front of the minivan collided with the scooter, the outlet reported, citing the Florida Highway Patrol.

Westbound lanes of Daniels Parkway were shut down for hours before reopening, per the same account. Florida Highway Patrol said the crash remains under investigation, and no further details about potential contributing factors have been released.

A Familiar, Dangerous Stretch of Road

This is not the first deadly crash to strike this same corner of Lee County. Back in December 2019, a crash at Daniels Parkway and Brookshire Lake Boulevard killed Fort Myers residents Ann Holt Wilson, 56, and Janet Hall Wilson, 52, according to USA Today. That earlier crash also closed multiple lanes of traffic for hours, the outlet noted at the time.

Daniels Parkway has seen other serious collisions in recent years. A six-car crash at Daniels Parkway and Ben C. Pratt Six Mile Cypress Parkway in Fort Myers on Oct. 3 killed at least one person and sent several others to local hospitals, News-Press reported. Separately, troopers have previously investigated a fatal crash involving a car and a scooter on nearby Six Mile Cypress Parkway, south of Daniels Parkway, according to an earlier News-Press report.

The available evidence does not establish a broader crash trend along the corridor, and investigators have not released information identifying either driver involved in Thursday's fatal collision. The Florida Highway Patrol's investigation into the crash continues, with no additional updates made public as of Thursday.
