Chicago started Sunday under cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid-50s, with spotty showers possible through the afternoon. By late morning, Midway was reporting 61 degrees, and the latest National Weather Service forecast put the city’s high near 61, according to the updated Chicago forecast.
Showers should remain scattered rather than steady, with the best chance early in the day and occasional sprinkles possible later. Winds will generally stay light from the south to southeast. The National Weather Service lists no watches, warnings or advisories for Illinois or Indiana, though a Small Craft Advisory is posted for Lake Michigan, as shown on its Chicago office page.
The mild start follows an unusually warm October: Chicago’s average temperature was 60.8 degrees, 6.8 degrees above normal, making it the city’s sixth-warmest October on record. The month also brought 2.61 inches of precipitation, 0.82 inches below normal, while a high of 88 degrees on October 12 set a daily record, the National Weather Service’s October climate summary shows.
Warmer Air Arrives Monday
Monday looks warmer, with highs generally in the low 60s, though even those temperatures may be too warm, and a chance of spotty afternoon showers. South-southeast winds will increase to 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph possible, so the lakefront may feel noticeably breezier than the thermometer suggests.
Tuesday is the warmest day in the forecast, with temperatures potentially climbing to around 73 degrees. Rain becomes likely, and stronger south winds could gust above 30 mph as a larger storm system moves into the region.
The approaching system is tied to a deep upper-level trough and a developing low-pressure system; forecasters expect the resulting southerly flow to bring the region warmer air and gusty winds. The National Weather Service says showers and perhaps a few thunderstorms are most likely late Tuesday into Tuesday night, while the storm’s slower midweek movement leaves some uncertainty about the timing of rain Wednesday through Friday, as outlined in its Chicago-area forecast discussion.
Wet Weather Lingers Into Wednesday
Rain is expected to continue Tuesday night and remain likely Wednesday, with highs reaching the mid-60s before the pattern turns cooler and unsettled.
Thursday brings showers and a high near 63, followed by cooler weather into Saturday. Saturday is expected to be mostly cloudy and chilly, with a high of 55.
