A man in his early 50s is fighting for his life after someone fired shots from a vehicle into a home in north St. Louis before dawn Friday, striking him in the upper chest. Police say the call came in from the 2500 block of North Sarah Street, near Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, at 3:16 a.m.
Officers arrived to find the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper chest, according to First Alert 4. He was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition. Investigators on scene said an early look at the evidence pointed to shots being fired at the home from a vehicle, though the full circumstances remain under investigation.
No Suspect or Vehicle Description Released
As of Friday morning, police had not released any information about a suspect or a description of the vehicle involved, per the same report. That leaves a wide gap in public knowledge about who pulled the trigger or why the home was targeted. Detectives have not said whether the victim was the intended target or whether anyone else was inside the residence at the time.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call District 5 detectives at 314-444-0001. With no suspect details made public, tips from neighbors or passersby could be central to moving the investigation forward.
A Second Shooting on the Same Street This Year
Friday's shooting is not the only violence to hit North Sarah Street in 2026. In August, District 5 officers responded just after 1 p.m. to a shooting near North Sarah and Maffitt, a few blocks from Friday's scene, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. That incident, described by police as occurring in the 2800 block of Sarah, left a man in his 30s dead. Police identified that victim as 34-year-old Cedric Hubbard of St. Louis. The department has not indicated any connection between the two shootings, which occurred months apart and under different circumstances.
In the August case, the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office elected to issue charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action against 46-year-old Demetrice Wright of Hazelwood, SLMPD reported. That case remains separate from Friday's shooting, and no charges have been announced in connection with the North Sarah Street incident involving the man in his 50s.
How Police Track Citywide Crime Data
SLMPD uses a CompStat methodology, implemented in 2023, under which commanders review crime data across 7-day, 28-day and year-to-date periods and compare it against prior timeframes. The department also maintains a homicide comparison that was most recently updated November 2, measuring the current year's count against previous years at the same point in the calendar. Weekly CompStat figures are posted the Monday after each reporting period closes and are described by the department as preliminary and subject to further review. Those broader statistics do not speak to any pattern specific to this block or this case, and detectives have released no information suggesting the two Sarah Street shootings are linked.
For now, the investigation into Friday's shooting remains open, with police continuing to seek the public's help identifying who fired into the home.
