The Harvey Milk Photo Center’s free “Ocean Beach” exhibition brings together 25 photographers whose work focuses on the Pacific. Its opening reception was scheduled for Friday, November 6, 2026, from 5 to 8 p.m.; the exhibition runs through December 5.

The gallery is at 50 Scott Street near Duboce Park. According to the Harvey Milk Photo Center, Heavy Water Collective and Katherine Akey co-curated the show, and the gallery is open during lobby hours for visitors who can’t attend the reception.

The Richmond Review/Sunset Beacon reports that the exhibition includes 74 images. Some photographers worked from the water, while others photographed from land or used drones to capture the shoreline.

A returning focus on Ocean Beach

The exhibition follows an earlier Heavy Water Collective show and slideshow at Mollusk Surf Shop in the Outer Sunset in April 2025, according to the Richmond Review/Sunset Beacon.

That earlier show, titled “Heavy Water: Two Seasons at Ocean Beach,” featured 22 photographers and work made at the beach during the fall and winter seasons of 2023–2025, the same report says.

The current exhibition brings the roster from 22 photographers to 25, continuing the collective’s documentation of Ocean Beach.

Ocean Beach and the Photo Center

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission reported that since 2015, more than 200,000 cubic yards of sand had been moved from northern Ocean Beach to south Ocean Beach, where erosion threatens wastewater infrastructure. The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission describes this as a response to shoreline erosion. The Harvey Milk Photo Center describes itself as a community space for people to create, learn and share, alongside its photography exhibits and events.
