Jungle Island is about to glow again. Starting Nov. 13, the Miami landmark will transform into a nighttime light trail called Luminosa, stretching 1.35 miles through seven themed zones built around Miami's neighborhoods, culture and energy, with the display running through Jan. 10, 2027.
The festival marks the return of a partnership between Jungle Island and light-art studio LEKTRIK Art, according to a Fever Newsroom announcement. Jungle Island President and CEO Jeremy Hauwelaert said Luminosa was first introduced in 2019, and that this edition is meant to return to that original inspiration while celebrating Miami's neighborhoods, culture and energy. “When we first introduced Luminosa in 2019, our vision was to reimagine the Magic City through light,” Hauwelaert said, per Fever Newsroom.
The scale of the installation depends on which source you check. Miami's Community News reports the path features more than 43,600 LEDs, while Fever's own event listing advertises over 1 million LED lights for the experience — a discrepancy the available reporting doesn't explain.
Seven Zones, One Island
This year's walk-through is organized into seven themed sections rather than the four areas used in 2019. Little Havana's zone leans into classic cars, illuminated instruments and Cuban culture, while the Art District section features oversized spray cans, illuminated graffiti panels and murals, the community news outlet reports. A South Beach zone brings palm trees, lifeguard towers and surf culture into the mix, alongside a Welcome to Miami section built around illuminated palms and tropical colors.
Other stops include a Tropical Miami zone with flamingos, exotic birds and peacock-feather tunnels, and a Beyond Miami: Fairland area filled with glowing creatures and fantastical installations. The route wraps up at the Luminosa Finale, where food, music, entertainment and photo moments are meant to give guests a reason to linger, according to the same Fever Newsroom release. Along the way, visitors can also browse the Luminosa Artisan Display for handmade goods, cultural finds and one-of-a-kind gifts.
Food, Hours and Tickets
Hungry visitors will find Latin-inspired street food and handcrafted themed cocktails throughout the grounds, per Miami's Community News. Luminosa is set to run Sunday through Thursday from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m., according to the Fever Newsroom announcement.
Tickets are listed starting at $25.90 for adults and $17.90 for children, with discounts available for family and group bundles. Despite those listed prices, Fever's own event page for the experience states that no tickets are available at the moment. The event page also lists Jungle Island's address as 1111 Parrot Jungle Trail in Miami.
A 2019 Debut, Revisited
Luminosa isn't new to Jungle Island, which has stood as a South Florida landmark since 1936 across from the cruise ports between downtown Miami and South Beach. The original run went from Oct. 5, 2019, through Jan. 8, 2020, spanning 13 of Jungle Island's 18 acres and organized into four areas — Birds and Blooms, Biscayne Bay, Jungle Trail and Miami Style — with Hauwelaert estimating at the time that it would take visitors about two hours to explore, according to Miami New Times.
That 2019 festival was inspired by the Chinese Lantern Festival and featured 1 million LED lights, according to the Miami Herald. Ticket prices from that run are murky in the historical record: Miami New Times reported adult tickets at $38.50 and child tickets at $33, while the Miami Herald reported $35.95 for adults and $30.95 for children, separate from regular park admission. Neither account clarifies which pricing applied to which dates or ticket tiers.
