Knoxville gets one more almost-summer day Tuesday, with sunny skies and temperatures climbing to around 79 degrees before the weather takes a sharp turn. Rain, thunderstorms and a much soggier forecast move in Wednesday, making today the best window for outdoor plans.
Warm Tuesday Gives Way To Cloudy Night
Tuesday morning started mostly clear and near 50 degrees, but sunshine will push temperatures into the upper 70s by afternoon. Winds should stay light before the sky turns mostly cloudy tonight and temperatures settle near 60.
The National Weather Service says above-normal temperatures will hold through Wednesday, while rain chances increase late Tuesday night. The wetter setup differs from Hoodline’s Monday forecast, which described low thunderstorm chances, while thunderstorms remain possible Wednesday.
Wednesday Brings Rain And A Few Thunderstorms
Wednesday carries a 90% chance of precipitation, with showers possible before 10 a.m. and thunderstorms becoming more likely from late morning into the afternoon. The high should reach about 74 degrees, but new rainfall could total between a quarter-inch and half an inch.
Strong, gusty winds are also possible from Tuesday night through Wednesday night, especially in the higher elevations and foothills east of Knoxville. No watches or warnings are currently posted, but residents in windier areas may want to secure loose outdoor items before the system arrives.
Showers Linger Before A Cooler Weekend
Thursday stays unsettled, with a slight chance of showers and a high near 73. Friday brings partly sunny skies and a high near 71.
The weekend looks calmer and more seasonable, with mostly sunny skies Saturday and a high near 65, followed by partly sunny conditions Sunday near 63. Overnight lows will dip into the 40s, and another slight shower chance appears Sunday night into early Monday.
