A man is dead after a shooting that unfolded in the predawn hours Sunday in the 400 block of Northwest 30th Avenue, with Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies finding him suffering from gunshot wounds before paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The exact location has been described differently depending on the outlet: Broward Sheriff’s Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene, and the Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide unit has opened an investigation into what happened.
According to WSVN 7News, the shooting happened near Fort Lauderdale, with Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies finding the man suffering from gunshot wounds before Broward Sheriff’s Fire Rescue crews transported him to the hospital. That account, published Sunday, says the man was pronounced deceased there and that the incident remains under investigation. A separate report from bocapost.com places the shooting instead in unincorporated Central Broward, describing the same 400 block of Northwest 30th Avenue address. The two outlets have not reconciled which jurisdiction description is accurate, and neither has published a follow-up clarifying the discrepancy.
What Happened Before Dawn
Per the bocapost.com account, Broward County Regional Communications received a report of a shooting around 1:35 a.m. Sunday. Deputies arriving at the scene located an adult male who had been shot and immediately began providing medical care, the outlet reports. Paramedics then transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased, matching the hospital outcome described in WSVN 7News’s reporting on the same case.
BSO’s Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit are now investigating the shooting, according to the same bocapost.com report. The sheriff’s office had not released the man’s identity or any information about a potential suspect as of the report’s publication. Anyone with information about the case was asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
Part Of A Recurring Pattern In Broward
Sunday’s shooting adds to a string of recent gun violence cases across Broward County. In January, a 35-year-old man identified as Nathaniel Forrest was shot near the 900 block of Northwest 24th Avenue in unincorporated central Broward County, according to the Miami Herald; deputies had arrived after receiving reports of shots fired around 9:40 p.m., and Forrest later died after paramedics took him to Broward Health Medical Center. In a separate incident reported by NBC Miami, a 17-year-old suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being shot in central Broward, with deputies responding shortly before 2:30 a.m. to a report of a shooting in the 2800 block of Northwest Sixth Court.
Broward.us also reported that a 37-year-old man, identified as Edward Jerrel Dolison, died after a deputy-involved shooting near Fort Lauderdale, with the sheriff’s office saying Dolison fired his gun before a deputy discharged his weapon in response. That same outlet noted the incident marked at least the 14th shooting involving South Florida law enforcement officers since the start of that year, underscoring how frequently gun violence has touched the region. No evidence connects that deputy-involved case to Sunday’s shooting, which remains a separate and active homicide investigation.
For now, BSO’s homicide and crime scene units continue working to determine what led to the gunfire that killed the man found early Sunday. Neither a suspect nor a motive has been disclosed, and investigators have not said whether they expect to release the victim’s identity soon.
