Memphis is starting Tuesday under cloudy skies and mild temperatures near 68 degrees, but the warmup is setting the stage for a rougher afternoon. Temperatures should climb to around 77 degrees, while storm-related wind gusts are possible. Showers and thunderstorms are expected after 3 p.m., making the evening commute the part of the day to watch.
The forecast has sharpened since Monday's broader storm outlook. Hoodline's earlier update flagged the warmup and weekend cooldown; Tuesday's forecast includes wind and storm threats.
Storms Could Bring Damaging Wind
The weather turns more serious late Tuesday. The National Weather Service in Memphis says a marginal severe-weather risk covers most of the Mid-South, with damaging wind gusts the primary threat and a lower-end risk of a brief tornado or localized heavy rain.
Storms are expected to continue into Tuesday night, with the forecast calling for 1 to 2 inches of rain. The listed Wind Advisory covers portions of northeast Arkansas and the Missouri Bootheel rather than Shelby County, but gusty winds and heavy downpours could still make travel difficult around Memphis.
People heading out should secure loose outdoor items and allow extra time for the late-day commute. If thunder roars, move indoors, as storms could bring damaging winds and heavy rain.
Clearer Skies, Colder Nights By Weekend
Wednesday brings a sharp reset, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 69 after the overnight rain pulls away. Thursday rebounds to about 70 before Friday cools to around 66 ahead of a reinforcing cold front.
By Saturday and Sunday, highs should stay in the mid-60s with overnight lows in the mid-40s, followed by a sunny Monday near 64. After Tuesday's storm threat, the rest of the week looks quieter—but decidedly less warm.
