Erick Moore, 23, was arrested Thursday and taken to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, according to WSVN, citing an arrest report. He faces charges of grand theft of a vehicle, burglary of an unoccupied structure, fleeing or eluding a police officer, reckless driving, and knowingly driving with a suspended license. The charges are allegations, not a determination of guilt.

The allegations

Investigators said a bus was reported stolen Wednesday from a gated business at 2951 NW 71st St. A woman told them surveillance video showed Moore entering the property and taking the bus. She said she recognized him from an earlier incident in which a bus was taken from the same business, WSVN reported.

The deputies’ response

A detective found the bus Thursday near Northwest 52nd Street and 29th Avenue. Deputies tried to stop it near Northwest 27th Avenue and 61st Street, then made another attempt near Northwest 22nd Avenue and 75th Street. The bus continued to Northwest 73rd Terrace and 24th Avenue, where it could go no farther and Moore was taken into custody, according to WSVN.

WSVN reported that Moore first told investigators someone had threatened to kill his family unless he took the bus for parts. He later said he took it because he thought he could get away with it. Investigators also found that his driver’s license had been suspended since August 2024 for failure to pay.

A separate report involving a man with the same name

An NBC 6 report described a 23-year-old named Erick Anthony Moore accused of driving an unregistered school bus in southwest Miami-Dade. The report listed charges that included knowingly driving with a suspended license, driving without a valid commercial driver’s license, and failure to have vehicle registration. Available evidence does not establish whether that arrest is connected to this case.
