The Hindu Cultural Center of Tennessee lists its address as 527 Old Hickory Blvd, Nashville, TN 37209.
A Tradition With Deeper Roots
Nashville’s temple grew out of a community effort that began before it had a dedicated place to worship. The Hindu Cultural Center of Tennessee was incorporated in 1980 after local immigrants held meetings in 1978 and 1979; festivals were initially celebrated in devotees’ homes. As participation grew, the group bought land in Bellevue, and Sri Ganesha Temple opened in 1985 as a religious and cultural center. The temple’s history traces that progression from informal gatherings to a shared institution.
This is not the temple's first Diwali gathering. The Hindu Cultural Center of Tennessee had scheduled a community Diwali celebration for October 17 and 18 in 2025, offering a package of prayers, prasad and celebration and advising guests to plan ahead to avoid long wait times. That 2025 event also sold specially curated Diwali prasad for $10 and fireworks packs priced at $45 for families and $25 for children, per the center's listing.
Nashville's Hindu community has built up its Diwali celebrations gradually in recent years. WPLN previously reported that Sri Ganesha Temple in West Nashville hosted a Diwali gathering following what the station described as a much smaller gathering the year before. Separately, NewsChannel 5 has noted that the Bellevue temple marks the holiday on November 7, with Vanderbilt professor and temple group leader Sankaran Mahadevan inviting the public to visit during the celebration or take a tour.
Diwali observances extend beyond Bellevue. The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Hermitage has scheduled its Diwali and Chopda Pujan celebration for Nov. 8, followed by Annakut on Nov. 10. Chopda Pujan marks the new year for business owners by blessing new account books, while the day after Diwali begins the Hindu New Year. The Hermitage mandir’s schedule shows how area congregations mark the holiday with their own ceremonies.
Ayodhya's Deepotsav
Ayodhya's 2026 Deepotsav is scheduled for November 7. The modern event began in 2017 and has grown yearly.
Ayodhya’s Deepotsav offers a measure of the scale the festival can reach: in 2025, more than 2.6 million lamps were lit along the Saryu River, retaining the Guinness World Record set the year before. Officials said more than 33,000 volunteers helped light them, with nearby families producing 1.6 million lamps. The record-setting display is a large state-organized spectacle, distinct from a neighborhood temple celebration.
Whether the Bellevue version draws anywhere near that scale remains to be seen, but the shared imagery — diyas, a river ghat, and the name Ayodhya itself — ties the local gathering to a celebration with much bigger roots. For now, the flyer's instructions are simple: register online, bring the family, and show up ready to walk through a recreated Ayodhya before the lamps hit the water at 8 p.m.
