San Diego is starting Sunday under mostly cloudy skies and a wet forecast, with rain expected this morning before scattered showers take over. The city should top out near 69 degrees. After that, the weather makes a quick turn, with Monday starting a dry, sunny stretch that climbs into the 70s.
Rain Eases From Morning Downpour To Scattered Showers
The National Weather Service in San Diego expects rain before 10 a.m. Sunday, followed by likely showers through the afternoon. Rain chances remain near 90% for the day, and coastal San Diego could receive roughly a quarter- to half-inch of rain, with isolated heavier showers possible.
Showers should taper from north to south during the afternoon, although a slight chance remains Sunday evening. Farther inland and in the mountains, rainfall totals may be higher, with locally an inch or more possible in the San Diego County mountains.
Surf And Offshore Winds Complicate Beach Plans
Beachgoers should also keep an eye on the ocean, where breaking waves are expected to run 3 to 6 feet through Monday. High tides just above 6 feet could produce localized tidal overflow on southwest-facing beaches where larger waves reach the shoreline.
A Small Craft Advisory is in effect Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. for outer coastal waters, where gusts may reach 20 to 25 knots and seas are expected to turn rough and choppy. The latest forecast adds those marine concerns to the rain timing described in Hoodline's earlier weekend outlook.
Sunny And Warmer Weather Returns Monday
Showers should taper off Sunday afternoon and evening. Monday should be sunny with a high near 72, followed by highs around 74 Tuesday through Friday.
The warmup peaks Saturday, when San Diego could reach 82 degrees under sunny skies. For now, Sunday is the day to plan around wet roads, passing showers and a rougher-than-usual stretch of ocean.
