A South Nashville man was stabbed by a neighbor late Friday night, leaving blood smeared across the walls and floor of his apartment complex before he was rushed to the hospital. Metro Nashville Police have since charged 29-year-old Bayron Hidalgo with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the attack.

Officers were called to an apartment complex in the 4000 block of Edmonson Pike at about 11:43 p.m. on October 30, according to WKRN News 2. When officers arrived, they saw blood on the walls and floor of the complex and found the victim bleeding from his chin and neck area. The victim told officers he did not know why he was attacked or who cut him, and he was taken to the hospital.

Witnesses Point to a Physical Altercation

Even though the victim said he could not identify his attacker, two witnesses gave police a different account. They told officers the victim and another resident, Bayron Hidalgo, had gotten into a physical altercation before the stabbing occurred, the station's report notes. One of those witnesses went further, telling officers they personally saw Hidalgo stab the victim.

Hidalgo offered his own version of events when questioned, telling officers that a dispute broke out while he and the victim were drinking together and that he acted in self-defense, per the same account. Based on the witness statements and Hidalgo's own admission to being involved in the altercation, he was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

A Second South Nashville Stabbing Weeks Earlier

The Edmonson Pike incident is the second South Nashville stabbing tied to an argument between acquaintances in recent weeks. On October 5, officers were called to the Greenview Apartments off Murfreesboro Pike for a reported stabbing, according to WSMV. In that case, an arrest affidavit alleges Jaylin Hampton was arguing with another man when he produced a pocketknife and stabbed the man in the chest.

That victim was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was immediately taken into surgery due to the amount of bleeding, WSMV reported. Hampton was arrested and charged with attempted criminal homicide, with his bond set at $250,000.

No court information has been released regarding Hidalgo's custody status or any scheduled court appearance in the Edmonson Pike case. Metro Nashville Police have not indicated whether charges against Hidalgo could be revised as the investigation continues.
