A 79-year-old man has not been seen or heard from since he drove off from a Southwest Miami-Dade home Tuesday afternoon, and detectives say he has not contacted his family since. Manuel R. Farias Rivero was last seen leaving the 14800 block of Southwest 105th Court around 3:30 p.m. in a large sedan, and authorities are now asking the public for help finding him.
According to WSVN, the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office reported that Farias Rivero stands 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs 170 pounds, has brown eyes and is bald. It is unknown what he was wearing at the time of his disappearance, the outlet reported, leaving investigators and family members without a key detail that could help spot him in public.
Detectives told the station that Farias Rivero has not contacted his family and may be in need of services, a concern that has driven the urgency behind the search. The case falls under the sheriff's office's broader missing-persons work; per the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, its Special Victims Bureau's missing persons detectives investigate all incidents of adults and juveniles that are officially reported missing.
Statewide Silver Alert Issued
A separate report from BocaPost says the Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued a Silver Alert for Farias Rivero, noting the alert is for Manuel Farias Rivero, 79, who was reported missing from Miami in Miami-Dade County. The outlet described the agency's flyer as listing him as a white male, bald, with brown eyes, and giving the same height and weight relayed by the sheriff's office.
Silver Alerts are reserved for missing older adults believed to be at risk, and Florida has used the system repeatedly in recent years. A report from news-journalonline.com noted that the state had eight active Silver Alerts at one point, with one dating back to 2012 and the most recent tied to a man reported missing in 2024, illustrating how some cases can remain open for years even as new ones are added.
