Oakland gets a quick weather reset Wednesday, with a brief chance of pre-dawn rain giving way to sunshine and a high near 67 degrees. Morning temperatures will start around 51 before climbing into the mid-60s. The bigger concern is along the Bay shoreline, where elevated tides could flood low-lying areas through Monday.

The latest outlook is a substantive update from Hoodline’s earlier forecast. The National Weather Service says a Coastal Flood Advisory runs from 6 a.m. Wednesday through 1 p.m. Monday, with up to 1.6 feet of inundation possible near shorelines and tidal waterways.

Sunny Afternoon, Warmer Weekend

Wednesday’s rain chance should fade before sunrise, followed by mostly sunny skies and a light north-northwest breeze of 3 to 7 mph. Wednesday night will turn mostly cloudy, with a low near 51 degrees.

Patchy fog is possible Thursday morning before mostly sunny skies arrive and temperatures reach about 69 degrees. The warmup continues Friday and Saturday, with highs near 71 and 74, before Sunday reaches about 73 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Bayfront Flooding Threat Builds Through Monday

The flood advisory is aimed at vulnerable Bayshore locations, where high tides may cause flooding around low-lying roads and infrastructure. The National Weather Service says isolated road closures and coastal erosion are possible, and drivers should never go around barricades or drive through water of unknown depth.

High tides are expected to run increasingly high through the weekend, reaching about 1.6 feet above normal from Saturday through Monday. The most vulnerable spots will be near the water, not across Oakland as a whole, but waterfront paths, roads and parking areas could still see problems around high tide.

Beach Conditions Turn Dangerous Thursday

Oakland residents heading to Pacific beaches should also be cautious from Thursday through Saturday. Long-period swell could produce breaking waves between 12 and 16 feet, along with sneaker waves and strong rip currents that can sweep people off beaches, rocks, jetties and other shoreline structures.

The forecast stays dry across the East Bay into early next week, with mild afternoons and cool nights. For anyone planning waterfront time, the sunny skies may be inviting, but the tide and surf hazards deserve more attention than the temperature.
