San Francisco is waking up to the last drops of an overnight weather system, followed by a mostly sunny Sunday with a high near 64 degrees. The bigger concern is along the water, where elevated tides could cause minor flooding near bayfront roads and shorelines through Sunday evening.
Sunny Sunday, But Winds Pick Up
Rain showers are expected to continue into Sunday mid-morning and end by Sunday afternoon, with sunshine taking over through the afternoon. Northwest winds will increase to between 5 and 12 mph.
The National Weather Service says a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday for low-lying areas near San Francisco Bay, San Pablo Bay and Monterey Bay. Up to 1.5 feet of water above ground level is possible in vulnerable spots, with the San Francisco gauge expected to reach high tide around 3:59 p.m.
Beach Hazards Arrive Monday And Tuesday
People heading to the coast should use extra caution beginning late Sunday night, as hazardous beach conditions are expected through Tuesday evening, according to the National Weather Service.
Monday is expected to be warmer and drier, with mostly cloudy skies and highs in the 60s. Another round of light rain is likely Tuesday, with a 70% chance of showers and rainfall generally expected to stay below a tenth of an inch in San Francisco.
Warmer Weather Returns Later In The Week
Rain is expected Tuesday and Tuesday night before mostly sunny and dry conditions return Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures may return to the 70s by Friday, with interior areas possibly reaching the low 80s Saturday.
For Sunday travel, allow extra time near flood-prone waterfront routes, avoid driving through water of unknown depth and do not go around barricades. The weather may look inviting by lunchtime, but the shoreline will still be the place to keep a little distance.
