A man was shot late Thursday night on Lakeview Avenue in Westwood, touching off an hours-long police presence that shut down part of the street as investigators worked the scene. The shooting happened around 11:10 p.m., and as of Friday morning, no suspect had been identified.
Accounts of the victim's condition differ depending on the outlet. According to WKRC, authorities said the man suffered life-threatening injuries after being shot. But wcpo.com reported that one person died following the Thursday shooting on Lakeview Avenue. Hoodline could not independently confirm which account is accurate, and neither has been retracted or updated to match the other as of publication.
Separately, wlwt.com reported that police had not said whether anyone was hurt at all, underscoring how little the department had confirmed publicly in the hours after the shooting. That station's report said a Westwood community was blocked off by police for hours after neighbors heard shots fired, with officers remaining on scene well into the overnight hours.
Neighbors Describe Officers Going Door-to-Door
Residents told the same outlet that officers canvassed the neighborhood for information. Neighbors said officers were going door-to-door and asking for information as the investigation unfolded, the station's report noted. One neighbor's Ring camera appeared to capture the moment gunfire rang out, with what sounds like three to four gunshots audible in the video, per the outlet's description.
WCPO reported that Cincinnati police had not released any information about a potential suspect. WKRC's reporting said it was unclear whether police had a suspect as of its publication.
A Neighborhood With Recent Gun Violence
Lakeview Avenue sits within a stretch of Westwood that has seen gun violence before. In a separate shooting outside the Chipotle at 5555 Glenway Avenue, officers responded at approximately 6:03 p.m. to a report of a shooting that had taken place moments earlier in the restaurant's parking lot, according to wlwt.com. Police later identified the victim in that case as 18-year-old Shadeed Coggins, who died at the hospital. In that earlier case, there was no immediate word from Cincinnati police about a possible suspect, and the department's investigation remained ongoing, the outlet reported.
Joseph Taylor was arrested and charged in connection with Thursday's shooting on Lakeview Avenue. Hoodline will update this story as police release more information.
