A Sedgwick County jury has found Kelyanna Windom, 21, guilty of first-degree murder and criminal discharge of a firearm in the shooting death of Christian Dixon, a 36-year-old Wichita man who was working security at a party when the gunfire erupted. The verdict caps a case that stretched from a chaotic early-morning shooting in Wichita’s Fairmount neighborhood to Windom’s arrest hundreds of miles away in Oklahoma.
The jury’s guilty verdicts were reported by the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office, which listed a media release titled “Jury Reaches Verdict in Kelyanna Windom Trial” on its criminal division media releases page. According to Hays Post, the victims had been working at a business in the 3900 block of East Vesta in Wichita when shots were fired during a disturbance there.
As reported by KSN, the shooting happened shortly after 3 a.m. on Feb. 7 near East 13th Street and Vesta Drive in the Fairmount area. Dixon, 36, of Wichita, died at the hospital, while a 43-year-old man survived the shooting. Police learned of the shooting just after it happened, when the two men arrived at a local hospital after being shot, according to Hays Post.
A Fight Inside the Club Preceded the Gunfire
Police said the violence traced back to a confrontation inside the club earlier that night. Windom got into a fight with other women at a party inside the venue, and the same KSN report notes that Dixon, who was working security for the party, kicked the women out before the shooting unfolded outside.
The station’s reporting indicates Windom did not stay in Wichita for long after the shooting. Cellphone data tracked her movements from Wichita to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she was ultimately arrested in March. She was booked into the Sedgwick County jail on March 17, according to Hays Post.
Sentencing Set for January
Windom is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 8, 2027, according to the District Attorney’s Office, as cited by Hays Post. Wichita police had released information about the shooting in the months following Dixon’s death as the investigation and manhunt played out across state lines.
