Lots of police activity in the neighborhood right now.
First, the SF Appeal reports that an SFPD officer was hit by a car during a traffic stop around 2:30pm this afternoon at Buchanan and Fell. The Appeal quotes police spokesman Albie Esparza as saying that the officer's injuries aren't life-threatening. Esparza adds that the vehicle fled the scene after the incident.
Meanwhile, around the same time, Haighteration reader Eric E. tipped us to police activity on the block of Webster between Oak and Page. The block has been taped off, and multiple cop cars are blocking access to the street.
Upon arriving around 3pm, we spotted cops putting someone in handcuffs at the scene. Whether this is related to the officer being struck at Fell and Buchanan is unclear at this time. An SFPD spokesman told us that while details were still developing, the activity on Webster was in fact "vehicle related," and the public does not have anything to be concerned about. We'll update with any more information as we get it. Update 4:30pm: The Appeal adds some more details:

According to police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza, officers pulled over a tan or gold Chevrolet Blazer with two men inside as part of a suspected narcotics investigation. When one of the officers approached the driver's side of the vehicle, the driver "made some movement toward the center console area of the vehicle," Esparza said. When the officer tried to pull the driver's arm away from the console, the driver took off, dragging the officer a few feet before he broke free, according to Esparza. Another officer then opened fire on the fleeing vehicle, Esparza said. The vehicle was found on the 300 block of Webster (thus the taped-off street), though Esparza says the suspects have not yet been found. So, unclear who was being handcuffed. We'll keep you posted.
