A Lower Haight resident and her friend were mugged at gunpoint late Friday night near the woman's home on Germania between Webster and Fillmore, she tells Haighteration.

The female victim, a 27-year-old Germania Street resident who moved to the neighborhood just three months ago, tells us she was walking on Germania with a male friend around 1:00am Friday night (well, technically Saturday morning), when the mugging occurred. Via email:
"There were two men, one short (5'8) Latino guy and another taller guy who I can't recall since the Latino guy had a gun and we were focused on him. The shorter guy pointed his gun at my friend's chest and told him to give him his wallet and cell phone, and then turned to me and said the same thing. We handed them over and he told us to turn around and walk the other other way, which we did... The whole thing took literally 15 seconds."
They immediately went to a neighbor's house and called the police, who "came right away (less than 5 minutes) and were very helpful and suprisingly concerned and compassionate." But as of today, police have no suspects in the case. Yesterday, in a follow-up meeting, police told the victims that theirs "was the only mugging [police] had on file for the Lower Haight recently."
"My neighbor and I have been asking around and hearing about mulitple muggings right on Germania and Fillmore in the last few weeks. I think people, especially guys, aren't reporting being robbed, so maybe it would be good to remind people to call the police if anything weird happens. Then we'll be more on the map and have more of a security presence."
Amen. If you're the victim of a crime in the neighborhood, or if you witness a crime, no matter how common or unsolvable you think it might be, please file a police report. If the police don't know crimes are happening here, they won't devote the resources to prevent them. It's that simple. Otherwise, please be careful out there, everyone.
