A lot going on in the neighborhood this weekend, from art openings to walking tours to tango lessons! Here's the rundown.
Tonight from 7pm - 8pm, take a free tango class at the Harvey Milk Center for the Arts, courtesy of instructor Andrea Fuchilieri. No need to sign up in advance or bring a partner, just show up at the ballroom and prepare to dance! Then, from 8pm to midnight, head to D-Structure for their First Friday opening of "American Dream," an art show curated by Unscripted Clothing. Along with free wine for the first 100 guests, there'll be giveaways, cocktails from Mobile Libations, and a raffle for a skateboard deck, art prints, t-shirts, and more. RSVP by 4pm today to score yourself a free raffle ticket. After the party is the afterparty, of course. Mosey on over to Nickies for the afterparty featuring DJ Dion Decibels, who will be spinning all types of hip-hop, funk, soul, and r&b, "with a house party mentality." There's no cover, and there'll be drink specials and giveaways to boot. 21+, naturally. Also tonight, there's a reception for an art opening at Bean There. Embarrassingly, we've somehow lost the details on this one -- so if anybody can fill in the blanks, we'd appreciate it! Saturday morning at 9:45am, check out the Walk the Wiggle Tour, which starts at the bike mural at Duboce and Church and concludes two hours (and one mile) later at Divisadero. Learn about the history of the Wiggle and its many uses over the centuries -- it'll transform the way you think about your neighborhood. The cost is a suggested donation of $10-40, and they require an RSVP -- email or call Joel Pomerantz: thinkwalks {at} earthlink {dot} net, 415-505-8255. Finally, Lower Haight resident and artist Lisa Dawn Colvin hosts an art reception for her latest art show, "Skies + Sidewalks," on Sunday from 4-6pm. The show runs at Sweet Inspiration (Market between Sanchez and Noe) now until February 26th. Anything we missed? Let us know! tips [at] haighteration {{dot}} com.
